Purpose

Hello and welcome to the Alliance Women Blog site. The purpose of this site is to provide a forum for women in our churches to communicate better in the sharing of ideas for ministry.

Do you have a story to share of a successful event/ministry ie. a women’s breakfast or luncheon, new and innovative way of holding a small group, ideas for Women’s Outreach” ideas? Blog It! Maybe you want to share mistakes to avoid when ministering – feel free to post it and let us learn from each other.

Ideas for a “Ladies Tea” Event from Living Word

In 2008 Living Word Church in West Milford held a Ladies Tea. Eileen shares “Our Ladies Tea went well. We had a good turn out…we started by having a garage sale to raise money so that we would not need to charge the women too much money to come…raised about $400. We hired a friend to come and speak to us. The women in our (small group) Bible study made trays of tea sandwiches at home and brought them to the church which we sorted on pretty trays with dollies. They also brought whatever pretty tea pots they had at home. With the garage sale and everyone making sandwiches we only need to charge the ladies $10 each to come. We had a full house. Tables were set up in the sanctuary and everything looked very pretty. We hired some teen girls to serve. If we ever do it again though we will probably hire college girls or professionals because the teens, at times, became distracted and might need constant supervision. Although it took a lot of work overall, it went well.”

Ladies Luncheon Event at Cornerstone Chapel

Vivian writes “The goal of the ladies luncheon held at Cornerstone Chapel in Pompton Plains, NJ in Spring of 2008 was twofold 1) outreach – to invite unsaved women who wouldn’t normally come to a church service and 2) fellowship – to provide an opportunity for women to come together in a relaxed atmosphere and provide a means by which they can socialize and get to know each other better. This goal was in keeping with Cornerstone’s “Links for Life – Loving God, Loving Each Other and Loving (the lost in) the World. The food was ordered from Shoprite at a reasonable cost. So much so that we ordered six foot heroes, salads and drinks for 50 women charging only $11 per person and had food left over. This price not only covered the cost of food but we were also able to purchase devotional booklets called “Prayers of a Godly Woman” which were handed out to each woman attending along with a beautifully designed bookmark.

We printed tickets to the event on computer and sold them in advance of the event so we would have a good idea of how many women to expect. Dessert was an assortment of delicious home baked cookies and was donated by a sister in Christ. Dot Elwood, former Teaching Leader at Bible Study Fellowship International, was the speaker for the day on the theme of “God’s Bouquet – Unity in Christ” from Ephesians 4. There was a time of worship lead by Moriah Women of Cornerstone as well as a time of prayer over each of the women attending. The funny “Momsense” video by Anita Renfroe (stand up comedienne and pastor’s wife) was also shared and the women laughed with enjoyment. The youth helped with serving the food and with nursery duty. It took a lot of organizing, many planning sessions and a good team effort but it came together nearly flawlessly. The goals of having an outreach event and a time of fellowship, I believe were achieved, thanks be to God. “
